EWB-Tanzania to Mobilise Dar es Salaam for Massive World Cleanup Day 2025 Effort
DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA – Residents of Dar es Salaam are being called to action as Engineers Without Borders – Tanzania (EWB-Tanzania) and its partners announce their participation in World Cleanup Day 2025. The massive, one-day environmental event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, uniting millions of volunteers worldwide in a powerful movement against pollution.
Under the rallying cry, “Dar es Salaam, let’s rise together for a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable city!” the initiative will span all five municipalities of the region: Kinondoni, Ubungo, Ilala, Kigamboni, and Temeke. The city-wide cleanup is scheduled to run from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, aiming to mobilise thousands of citizens in a coordinated effort to beautify their communities.
World Cleanup Day is one of the largest civic movements in the world, dedicated to fighting the global waste crisis. EWB-Tanzania is spearheading the local effort, focusing on key environmental goals.
More than just a cleanup
“This is more than just a cleanup; it’s a statement of our collective responsibility and pride in our city,” said a spokesperson for EWB-Tanzania. “Our goal is not only to fight litter and reduce plastic pollution on the day but also to promote long-term habits like recycling and inspire future generations to become guardians of our environment. We believe that together, we can make Dar es Salaam shine.”
“Until We Shine”
The campaign, themed “Until We Shine,” emphasises the power of community collaboration. Organisers are calling on individuals, families, schools, businesses, and community groups to join the movement. Participants are encouraged to bring their energy, gloves, and a positive spirit to make a tangible impact on their neighbourhoods.
The initiative aims to:
- Significantly reduce plastic pollution in streets, parks, and public spaces.
- Keep neighbourhoods clean and foster a safer, healthier environment.
- Build pride in the city and strengthen community bonds.
- Inspire a new generation of environmentally conscious citizens.
Volunteers and groups interested in participating are urged to register to help coordinate efforts across the vast metropolitan area.
